Today I finally turned the heat up on my Viper 90. Had been flying on low & mid rates, by the flick of a switch I turned on high rates (factory specs) and wow..... Now I see the excitement, at high rates the aircraft is quite reactive and will follow your commands. In the turns, the Viper 90 will hold the tightest of turns and doesn't get bogged down. I've just completed building Viper #2, this will be a turbine with a Xicoy 45 - this will be another rocket ship. And hopefully give me hours of fun, the size will allow me to haul the plane assembled and so when I get to the field, fuel up and fly.... Great job Horizon. In closing, I must make one comment, the Viper is susceptible to wing tip stalls if you're going slow in a turn and your nose has a slight up attitude. Keep the nose down and throttle at 60% until you settle into your glide path, once there bring the throttle down to about 20% a click of up elevator and you'll be landing like a 20-year pro. Move the battery back a 1/2" and you'll be landing like an F16 pilot, nose up. Enjoy

Great jet with some minor cosmetic issues

The Viper is a big improvement over the 70mm. They fly similar but they're two entirely different birds. There is more inertia and therefore a lot more interest when flying the 90mm. It looks better. It's better constructed. The landing gear are so much better that it's hard to believe they didn't set up the 70mm with gear as robust as this model on the first release. Pros: Landing gear. Seriously. I can't say enough good things about them. Slotted flaps. Another thing the 70mm should've had. Pocketed hinges on all control surfaces. Super robust and will hold up to many flight hours. Yet another "the 70mm should've had it". Price point shouldn't have been an issue. The Turbo Timber has pocketed ailerons and it is, or at least was, cheaper than the 70mm Viper. Fit and finish is almost flawless. The 90mm motor is one of the best sounding and best performing I've flown out of several EDFs that I own. The howl this thing makes as it streaks past is worth hearing. Cons: I say almost flawless because I agree with other commenters - at the price range of a 90mm jet, there is no reason to be seeing bare foam. Get FMS to paint these white please. Paint is not as good as competitor jets - it's really not. This is an issue across FMS-made models like the Viper 70/90, or the Pitts v2, or the Maule M7, etc. The paint flakes off so easily on FMS models. Another FMS-related issue is the control horns on the control surfaces. There is no good reason why we're using plastic linkages that won't hold up to removing the ball link. I shouldn't have to unscrew a ball. Like competitor jets, I should be able to pop it off using a pair of tweezers *without* breaking the horn. I did this with the left flap control horn and had to reinforce it with carbon fiber to actually avoid paying for a full wing set. For the price it's hard to argue with it - buy one! The cons are well outweighed by the pros.

Best EDF So Far

I've owned a few 90mm fighter jets, 80, and 70mm sport jets. I will say this one has to be the best EDF out there at the moment. I literally did not touch the trim out of the box. I used the pre-program on the IX-20 and it worked perfect. I only had to program a select switch. This thing is fast!! It will get away from you quick if you do not know what you are doing. it will easily do 110mph on a low pass and will go vertical like a rocket! This is not a first EDF by any means but to an intermediate pilot, it almost feels easy.
