Diamond Strike On Box Matches are low priced well. Sometimes $8.99 to $10.99 for three boxes of 300 matches. They work well if you're using a lighter fluid on what you're burning or if you're burning say really dried out pine straw. But when you try to burn pieces of wood that's still green or leaves that seem dried out but may not be there's no way that matches alone will burn it. Sometimes you must use lighter fluid to get a fire started or dump lots of dried out pine straw on top of the green pieces of wood and strike 4 to 6 matches and toss them in 4 or more different locations within a burn barrel. That's guaranteed to get a fire started that may take a whole day for it to fizzle out. You don't want to be standing over the burn barrel when the fire finally gets started as it belches out so much smoke you want to run for it so you don't breathe in the awful smelling smoke. These matches can last a long time if you use them wisely. Sometimes it only takes 1 or 2 matches to get a fire started in the perfect spot where the pine straw is extremely dry. There's only one flaw with these matches--they break easily while you're trying to strike them on the box and I've had times where the match struck and the fire started on the match head exactly as it broke in two and because I was still holding it I almost got my fingers burnt or got my fingers stung by the match by holding on to it too long. I've had matches strike on the box but then fall on the ground and I had to put it out with my shoe. I've had times when the match broke in two as it struck and I had to quickly toss it in the burn barrel and hope the fire didn't go out. Sometimes the match would land head first in the pine straw and that would cause the fire to go out with a poof of smoke as it went out. That's just irritating for it to go out just as you toss it in the pine straw. Sometimes you have to fluff up the pine straw to make it easier for the fire to connect with the pine straw better. Yes, it seems like there's a science to getting a fire started and keeping it going as it seems like the fire quickly wants to go out unless you keep feeding it more dried out pine straw and kindling wood that's just laying around your yard.
