The Large Glass by Marcel Duchamp

The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, better known as The Large Glass was first created in 1915 and presented in 1923 after Duchamp announced it as “permanently unfinished”. After its first exhibition in 1927, the glass was accidentally damaged, Duchamp later repaired it, and decided to leave the cracks in their intended place. This original piece has been exhibited in the Philadelphia Museum of Art since 1954. There have been many controversial perspectives on the objective behind this piece, but we know from the artist that The Large Glass is meant to demonstrate the erotic tension between the Bride and her Bachelors.
