Mr. W.W, DeLong who was Post Master and Editor of the Eddyville Tribune captivated his readers with the published details of a mysterious murder committed at the turn north of the Eddyville Cemetery and a map with the possibility of a fortune in gold buried nearby twenty-five years before. When news about the gold was revealed it is said hundreds came looking to find the fortune.
