This is both an analytical and a constructive work that seeks to propose a theological framework for development in Africa with a specific focus on Tanzania. Most of past educational materials in this field concerned themselves with the term "development." This study endeavored to analyze the deficiency of this term and thus introduced couple qualifying terms namely, "Sustainability" and "Transformation." These terms, above all, present a crosscutting perspective in dealing with human condition facing the sub-Saharan Africa but without necessarily universalizing them. The quest for an African theology of sustainable development in Tanzania derives its legitimacy from historical phenomenon that has denied local knowledge utilization in bringing solution to the problems facing people. The church in Tanzania which, provides a larger percentage of social services to the population, relies on theologies and methodologies that have little input from Tanzanians themselves.
