Good brushes for use with heavy body acrylics.

Maybe thirty years ago I bought a handful of brushes sold under the name Shiva which I liked a whole lot. I still have and use three of them actually. I looked online for the company who made them and found Jack Richeson as the company and Grey Matters as being the closest contemporary product line. So I ordered one and have been checking it out. It handles heavy body acrylic very well. The fibres are very similar to the Shiva series although the shape is a little flatter while being well shaped. Glad I bought it.

The perfect brush for acrylics

Now that I've had a chance to use them for a while I must admit I'm in love with these brushes for use with acrylic paints and mediums. They are firm enough to handle even heavy bodied acrylic paints and leave brush strokes if desired, yet soft enough with fine bristles to move paint softly, blend and shape the paint smoothly. They can be used with fluid acrylics as well as heavy body acrylics. They have a lovely spring and handling quality. I also like the idea of the neutral gray handle, ferrule and hair fiber that won't distract from your color mixing. It's just the perfect brush.

Fabulous brushes for acrylics!

I can't praise these Jack Richeson Grey Matters brushes highly enough! They are beautifully crafted with superb handling qualities. The rounds hold a perfect point, even in the larger sizes. The flats and brights have crisp chisel edges that offer excellent control. They carry a lot of paint and deliver it to your painting surface effortlessly without splaying or splitting. They are midway between hog bristle and soft sable in their firmness. They are firm enough to push heavy bodied acrylics around but the synthec hair fibers are fine enough that they leave a smooth paint film, even when glazing. They are my new go-to brushes for all my acrylic painting. Give them a try! I think you will love them, too.
