Mother's Whistler

This was exactly what we needed for our new conduction stove. My wife loves her tea and this works well and matches our coffee pot.

Confused about the metal cap with the small hole i

I really like the color of my new kettle I'm just a little confused about the metal portion of the top of the kettle where you fill it with water. Is that metal portion with the small hole in it supposed to come out? I've never had a kettle like this so I'm confused.
