In the story of Vincent 'Abraham' Ochukwu, born in South-Eastern Nigeria in the early twentieth century, we see the history of a country struggling to unite long-established beliefs with the 'modernisation' and religion inflicted by a colonial power. Abraham must chose his own path; will he put his faith in the Oracle men, Jujus and gods of the past, or will he embrace the Anglican religion adopted by his well-respected Uncle Meme? In attempting to reconcile the pulls of the past and the future, Abraham fails to appease either the Nigerian God of Thunder or the Christian God Almighty, and so his tragic tale unfolds.
