A still newer evergreen plant, blooming in June, and having green, persistent leaves, like a small Holly, is the Osmanthus, from Japan, which has many variegated and other forms. And that reminds me I omitted to men tion Paulownia imperialis, that noble-leaved tree, producing in sheltered spots large lilac, Gloxinia-shaped, sweet-scented flowers. It was introduced to our gardens in 1840.
