We bought this because our baby girl was starting to pull up on furniture and this was our first step to babyproofing the living room. This ottoman is a perfect replacement for our heavy, solid wood coffee table that had extra, ornate sharp corners. It's lighter weight and easy to move around to make more play room- yet heavy enough that it doesn't move when you don't intend it to, easy to assemble, soft on all sides but still solid enough to set drinks and plates on while she is sleeping AND it triples as a toybox so that we can easily clean up the living room of all her toys at the end of the day. The lid lifts up and stays up, for her to pull items out of her toybox that she can reach, but the sides are tall enough that she won't accidentally fall into the box and the hinge hardware do not seem to be a hazard. The lid stays up and in place until you push it down and because everything is cushioned, no fear of slamming fingers between anything. Even when the lid does come down, it pushes down slowly and pretty gently. We've been using it for about a month and a half and it's exactly what we wanted and it looks great too and seems to pretty durable, at least for our current needs.
