Desmond Tutu
Born 1931 in South Africa, Desmond Tutu rose to prominence as a leading figure in the struggle against apartheid. Ordained as an Anglican priest, Tutu became known for his passionate advocacy against apartheid, serving as General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches. He gained international recognition and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his role in the anti-apartheid movement. After apartheid ended, Tutu chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, promotion national reconciliation. Throughout his life, Tutu remained a steadfast voice for human rights and social justice, leaving behind a legacy of courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication to equality and peace. He passed away on December 26, 2021, but his impact continues to inspire generations worldwide.
