Just reviewed by SPUN: 'From Infinity Cat Recordings comes the delightful Sundays and Birthdays by Andy West. Somewhere between acoustic pop and singer/songwriter material, Mr. West puts to music his hopes and regrets among ten songs.' Recommended CD of the week! Born in Liverpool, England, Andy West grew up listening to a gratefully inherited stack of Buddy Holly, Byrds and T-Rex records. Before long it was the late seventies and he was spending 100% of his pocket money on Squeeze and The Clash. At 15, Andy bought a guitar, picked up a Beatles songbook and began to strum. Three years later he formed The Fontaines. At first the band performed covers, but later they developed original material and toured the south of England. In 1991, Andy joined a band featuring Hugh Cornwall (The Stranglers) and legendary songwriter Roger Cook (Blue Mink). The resulting 'Cornwall, Cook and West' album was released on UFO Records to widespread critical acclaim. The trio toured Europe and made live radio appearances to promote the release. During the mid-nineties, Andy became more involved in writing and recording soundtrack music for Carlin Productions in London. Following a writing trip to Nashville, Tennessee in 1997, he moved to the United States and signed a publishing deal with Warner Chappell in Nashville in March 1999. He has since formed his own publishing company, Mercy Beaucoup. 'Sundays and Birthdays' is Andy West's first solo recording venture. Discover for yourself one of England's finest singer/songwriters and tune into the start of something special.
