Go on...throw shade

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this grass last year as my yard is super shady and I struggle to get grass to grow. After spreading and watering I now have grass in the shady bits . I'm excited to spread more this year and to overspread in the hopes of having a lush yard in the future. Thank you Pennington for such a great product!!

Only seed that grew

I have three areas where grass has not grown over the last couple of years. I tried several different brands and techniques without results. Aeration with over-seeding, Thatching with over-seeding. Nothing was working. This summer I tried Pennington Smart Seed Dense shade in one of the areas, and I am cutting new grass :-) I am now going to work on a second area, and hopefully this will be as successful.

Works, if you use it correctly and look past the negatives

This seed did an awesome job at germinating, and is filling in 100% bare patches quite nicely! Now, we'll see how well it tolerates having ~3 hours of sun, as advertised. The fertilizer coating is awful. Green powder coated everything and everyone involved in spreading this stuff. But, if you look past it, it works. As always, when I look through reviews of grass seed, I see a lot of dissatisfied people, because they weren't experienced at successfully growing grass from seed. Makes it hard to find a true average rating of seed quality. Follow the bag's "optional" steps. They're actually required for most soil types. I have impacted clay, and I had to go above and beyond, with ph correction, a full tilling, adding mulch, then raking in of seed after spreading. Otherwise, it wouldn't have a chance. Don't expect miracles XD
