First, this is not over 5 inches like the description says. I measured and the thermometer is just a 4 inch circle. I wouldn't ever count the total size once mounted as the full size. Very misleading. However, this is a very nice item. It's very well made, unlike all other outdoor thermometers that I have ever bought. And...it's actually calibrated right! This is a definite first for a thermometer styled like this that we've bought. While sitting in the house, before we installed it, the temperature matched what my house thermostat says at all times, within one degree. I can live with one degree off. Everything else we've ever had was off my ten degrees. This thermometer is well made out of heavy metal, not cheap plastic. The picture and numbers are very clear. Other than the small size, I am totally impressed with this thermometer! One star off, just for small size. Foru start for almost perfect! =)
