The umbrella worked out great for our backyard patio area. The tilting feature provided the right amount of shade in whatever area were sitting. It was all good until a tornado lifted the umbrella out of the umbrella stand and then lifted the pole out of the patio table and blew the umbrella across our yard--sad but true.

I Love this umbrella. It covers my small 7'x11' deck. The Only problem is that it is very heavy when opened and REQUIRES a very heavy base to compensate its weight, otherwise it will bend with plastic/composite bases [especially in the heat & sun]. If you use heavy duty velcro around the crank handle it should help with it not closing on its own. I intend to purchase a large utility bucket at the hardware store to fill with cement and place the lower pipe in it [protecting the metal] to harden and remain as a permanent base, hopefully this will help [we'll see]. I DO AGREE with closing the umbrella when not in use [again with heavy duty velco strips] to keep it closed and secure.
