These have been around for quite sometime and I forgot what happened to my old one, so I noticed this one at a good price and bought it. It's easy to use and makes just under a gallon of water in about 3.5 hours. I leave some water in the distiller to pour out, so it doesn't dry on the bottom with hard minerals (makes for easier cleaning). It comes with a few charcoal filters, but you can buy charcoal replacement anywhere and put it in cheesecloth, so not to buy expensive refills. Actually, the water is distilled, so charcoal really isn't necessary, The fan on the top portion is metal (my old one was plastic) and the operation is quite loud, louder than some dishwashers. Since my kitchen is open to the living area, so I had to turn the TV up, so I later moved it into a hallway when using. It also put off noticeable heat, which is good in winter, but not so much in summer. It will raise the temp of a small bathroom 10 degrees. It's 750 watts, so where I live, it costs 47 cents to make a gallon. That does not include A/C, which is a small factor since the exhaust air runs very warm. That depends on how much you use it. I have it to make mineral free water for a humidifier, not to drink. Do not give your pets distilled water; it doesn't have vital minerals they need. Do not drink distilled water exclusively for the same reason. I got the white one because it was less than the stainless one, plus I did not want a glass container; this one comes with a plastic jug, which I prefer. I've read the handle on the glass models get's loose and I don't want to risk breaking it, and plastic is lighter. I recommend this as a good value.

So far the 2 of these distillers I ordered have been great. I use them multiple times per day most days of the week and they work perfectly. They are an upgrade from the 2 distillers I bought over 3 years ago and there is no better price you can find. I use a glass 64oz container so I use the timer function to stop half way through. The timer comes preset to the perfect time when you just run for the entire gallon. It leaves a small amount of water on the bottom which protects it from cooking mineral deposits on the bottom so cleaning is much easier. My older distillers had no timer and that's why 1 broke when the minerals cooked to the bottom and ruined it. This distiller is upgraded to avoid that. I learned how important it is to keep the distiller clean so I wanted the timer. I also learned that you should not overfill past the line which I was doing with the old ones. I would expect these distillers could potentially last over 5 years or more if used properly since my old ones made it over 3 years with improper use (1 still works!). I use several times per day and I let them cool down between uses. So far I'm very happy. I don't overfill. I leave the timer settings for the gallon so about an inch of water remains on the bottom. I know to clean with citric acid or vinegar a few times per month. I let them cool down between uses. I also fill with hot water to make it a little easier to heat up.
