Vertical Passion and Pinot--Loved it

This book had me (surprisingly) from the first pages to the very unexpected end. It follows the two heros of Sideways -Miles and Jack--into The Willamette Valley--along with Miles's Mother and her pot smoking Filipino nurse--and the situations they get it are truly great comedy. Yet the book has a very serious undertone that plays out beautifully in thee end. I was really struck by ho moving the entire book was after laughing so hard.I highly recommend. I actually like it more than Sideways (as if that were possible). Its a class read (even more so if you're in a wine class!)

Enjoyed the sequel to Sideways from cover to cover

I loved taking this JOY RIDE with Miles, Jack and the whole crew. I read the first unedited edition, and this new edition was MILES AHEAD (no pun intended)! The story-line hooked me from the beginning and the rich characters (with all of their flaws) had me staying up late every night to see what was going to happen next. I laughed and cried, and was actually bummed that the book had to end. Hoping to see this on the big screen! Cheers!

Not the Original! An Insultingly Bad "Re-Issue"

Buyer beware: this is not the original "Vertical" that "Sideways" author Rex Pickett wrote. I ordered it by mistake. I read it, and it read okay, I guess, but when I found out it wasn't the original book that the author wrote, I was both appalled and felt ripped off at the same time. Why would the publisher, without the writer's involvment or cooperation, have some hack editor chop his award-winning book that was released 5 years ago (!) into bits? Then, sprinkle it with badly-done cartoons [sic]! And don't get me started on the publisher's introduction, which is nothing short of a lame rationalization for doing what he did without the author's permission or collaboration. Really? Is this done? I don't think so. It's an affront to every writer who's ever written and published. But, to an award-winning novel? Why? It doesn't make sense. It is a new low for independent publishing, and this particular "publisher" who seems to feel he had the right to destroy Rex's novel. Wow.
