I am new to making smoothies, so I did some research on power blenders and bullet machines. My main focus during my research was to purchase a unit that would 1) function as more than making smoothies; 2) make smoothies with ease; and 3) fit within my budget. The Oster Pro 1200 meets and exceeds all of my expectations...except for one very minor thing (below)! The blender's function buttons are nice to have, and it looks nice on the counter. As for power for smoothies, this baby has power!! It has no problems breaking down fresh kale leaf/stems, fresh carrots, ginger root, and ice cubes into nice smoothies. Ice cubes turn into very tiny, tiny, pieces of ice (like slushies). IF you use frozen fruit for smoothies (which I tried and but I will go back to using fresh fruit), you WILL need to add extra liquid, otherwise the frozen fruit (though blended) will be VERY thick causing the blender to bog down. THE only thing I wish Oster would change, is to design the Smoothie Cups so they can fit in car cup holders. (I like the fact that the Smoothie Cups are 24oz though). All-in-All, I am very happy with my Oster Pro 1200, and I would recommend it to others.

Had the previous version and we thought that buried all other smoothie makers including the Ninja--but this one surpasses it even further. Oster was the original "blender" that i remember and every year they get better!! Yes its loud, but do you expect it to be quiet when it actually pulverizes ice?

I toast the Oster!
I did some research on consumer reports which stated that this blender was the 3rd highest rated product they tested. Doesn't seem like much until you realize that the cost for #1 & #2 were in the $200-$300 range. I purchased our Oster for $70 and change. Works very well, easy to clean, and you also get 2 cups for smoothies. Best part of all is that my bride absolutely loves it...so here's hoping this Oster lasts as long as our previous blender; roughly 36 years.
