Surprisingly bright and long lasting

My yard had multiple high intensity 20-watt lights for ambiance and the lighting of major plants such as trees. However, even with a timer to limit the hours of usage, it became clear that this was a waste of electricity. So, it make total sense to move to solar, a free, and non-polluting method of lighting the yard. However, the problem with a solar light is that they are pretty dim and did not last very long before they faded out at night. The Mainstays 20 Lumen Solar Spotlight might be a solution. However, only 20 lumens? That’s less than many small flashlights. So, it was with some skepticism that I tried out the solar spotlight. Much to my surprise, it was very bright. No, it was not as bright as the 20-watt incandescent, but more than enough to accent certain plants and provide a comforting ambiance to the garden. The light itself has a pivoting solar panel, which you point facing the sun. The lamp is not movable, so you position it by plunging the ground spike at the desired place and at the correct angle. Another surprise is that with only 10 hours of sunlight in winter, the light ran at full brightness from 6PM until well past 11PM. Pretty good considering it was a partly cloudy day. The solar panel was in direct sun during the day.

Nice solar light

This is a review for the Mainstays 20 Lumen Solar Spotlight. It is a black spotlight . It is made of plastic and has a spike peg to push into the ground. There is an automatic on/off. There is no wiring required which makes this so easy to place in my yard and I can move it to other places as I (or my wife) wishes. It is the warm white light not the bright daylight type of light. There is also an on/off switch if you wish to turn the light off. The biggest problem with these lights are that there are no instructions with the light. I know it seems that you might not need any but you do have to switch the light on. There is a white plastic cover over the on/off switch on the bottom of the solar panel. If you miss this it would seem like the light doesn't work. Switch it on and I have not had any problems.

Great Lights

These Mainstay yard lights are really nice. Being LED they really light up what you are trying to light up. The Solar cells that are on top, charge the unit during light times. These are adjustable in that you can move them up or down for positioning. They also have an on off switch on the underside of the solar part and it's enclosed in a rubber covering to protect it from the rain etc. and when you take them in for the winters where you have snow. They are made of heavy duty plastic so they won't break easily. You can also use them for inside lights if your power goes out and take them back outside for recharging during the day. We have tried it in the dark in our bathroom and it worked great.
