Kathy Troccoli showed no signs of yielding her crown as the queen of inspirational adult contemporary pop on this, her 17th album. At least one critic dubbed The Story of Love "the pinnacle of [Troccoli's] career" for hitting a home run on practically every cut. The album stands out for its superb musicianship and song selection. Sandwiched between '30s cabaret standards "Pick Yourself Up" and "The Glory of Love" are successful outings in various inspirational styles, including a contemporary worship track ("Lifting My Hands") and a cover of Keith Green's "Make My Life a Prayer to You." The liner notes include a generic explanation of how the songs reflect different qualities of God's love. The arrangements shun David Foster-esque catharsis in favor of a lighter, acoustic sound.
