The top shell (lid) is integrated with the proprietary Steel-Shield® construction, which features a several bands of steel as a structural reinforcement to withstand a pressure of over 100lbs. Both violin and viola Oblong cases feature a very clever music pocket design, doubling as a storage to completely conceal the integrated backpack straps if you opt for carrying with a shoulder strap (included).
