I purchased this a while back and just today opened up the box and used it. This is one of those times I wish I hadn't cheaped out and spent a few more dollars for a Hakko. It was instant dislike. 1. The instructions are skimpy and just pitiful. 2. I still cannot figure out how to mount the soldering holder to the base. It is very flimsy. I ended up bringing out my separate stand from years ago. 3. Having the holder, sponge pad and brass cleaner mounted to the control unit may save a little money for them, but that set-up is extremely awkward and inconvenient to actually use. 4. At first, I couldn't figure out what the attachment on the left side was for. It is to hold a roll of solder. NOBODY rolls solder off the side like that. I hold the reel in my hand. Useless. 5. The cord is not detachable at the base. Burn the cord and the whole unit becomes e-waste. The equivalent Hakko (FX-888) does exactly the opposite of the above. I don't solder much, but wish I had paid more attention to what I was getting. My bad. At least it does solder. No comment about longevitiy.
