Pacifica Island Art uses an environmentally-friendly Unryu Japanese rice paper made by the Awagami Factory in Tokushima, Japan. Unryu, which translates to 'cloud dragon paper' in Japanese, features long strands of kozo fiber and is made from natural mulberry and hemp fibers using traditional Japanese Washi techniques - ABOUT THE ARTIST - George Hurrell - George Hurrell (1904-1992). During the 1930s and 1940s, Hurrell worked with nearly every major studio star in Hollywood. Many would not sit for any other photographer. His groundbreaking techniques, his trademark spotlighting and a rejection of soft focus created a sensuality that came to define Hollywood's Golden Age. Esquire magazine wrote in 1936 that, 'A Hurrell portrait is to the ordinary publicity still about what a Rolls-Royce is to a roller-skate.?' Hurrell's incredible black and white publicity stills captured many of Hollywood's most glamorous and famous stars as the movie going public had never seen them before. The reason they all insisted on having Hurrell was simple; he photographed a movie star and created an icon. He photographed all the greats, including Garbo, Bogart, Katharine Hepburn, Harlow, Lombard, Rita Hayworth and Joan Crawford, and he is even credited with creating Veronica Lake's peek-a-boo hairstyle. His portraits of Jane Russell (bra-less) on a haystack for The Outlaw were some of the most stunning shots ever taken of the actress and reflected her untamable sexuality.
