Excerpt from A Sketch of the Origin and the Recent History of the New England Company

The New England Company was first established by the Long Parliament in 1649.

The first Pilgrim Fathers had led the way to America in the May Flower in 1620. The celebrated John Eliot followed in 1631. Through the work of John Eliot, and the publication of his eleven tracts, the wants of the North American Indians became known in England. The result was the original establishment of the Company now known as the New England Company.

As Eliot's work is so much connected with the commence ment of the Company, and as his tracts are very rare now and scarcely to be procured, a short sketch of his life and the titles of his tracts are here given.
