Stroobant (1819-1916) Stroobant was a Belgian painter, engraver, illustrator, lithographer and watercolourist. He was also sometimes called Vaporeau. He is primarily a painter and etcher of botanicals (multicolored florals), landscapes and architectural subjects in the style of romantic realism. At the age of 16, the talented Stroobant became an apprentice in the famous lithographic company Dewasme Pletinckx-up. He met the painter-lithographer Paul Lauters (1806-1875), the great specialist who together with Jean Baptiste Madou, is considered the most talented lithographer of the 19th century. Stroobant studied from 1832 to 1847 at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts. He was the founder and first director of the Fine Arts Academy of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek (Brussels). In 1854 Stroobant received the gold medal at the Brussels Salon. In 1863 he became Knight and in 1879 Officer of the Order of Leopold. Filemaker 1694
