Jesus reminds us when we forget, strengthens us when we are tired, and inspires us to actions of love rather than personal gain when we hesitate. The crucifixion represents the ultimate sacrifice and God's gift to humanity. Because mankind had repeatedly sinned and broken the covenant (the agreement between God and the Jewish people), the only appropriate method of atonement was to sacrifice God's own Son, poetically describing him as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." By agreeing to stand trial and then receive the death penalty, "Jesus expiated our faults and satisfied our sins." This means that because of Jesus' selfless actions, it was possible for God to remove humanity's sins. Jesus’ death demonstrated Christ’s love for all people, and “in the moment of Christ’s crucifixion” it was evident that “the depth and breadth of God’s love shined through.”
