This print will look wonderful framed in the home, office or restaurant and is perfect for the Vintage Art Collector. - ABOUT THE ARTIST - Jean Gaston Mantel - Jean Gaston Mantel (1914-1995) French painter who mostly lived in Morocco. Studied painting at École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1936 he won a scholarship to the National Society of Fine Arts which allowed him to stay a year in Morocco. He moved to Rabat in a workshop made available to the winners of the Kasbah des Oudayas and worked in Meknes with Mattéo Brondy (1866-1944). Back in his hometown in 1937, he presented his work and applied for a position as a drawing teacher in Morocco, which he obtained in Rabat at the lycées d'Orangers. Forced to return to France during the Second World War, he hastened to return to Morocco in 1946 and was appointed professor in Rabat at the Lycée Gouraud. He is the author of numerous posters to promote Moroccan tourism and produces several slideshows and decorative panels: panels over ten meters long for the Hilton hotel in Rabat, and decorations for the Ministry of Tourism representing Moroccan festivals: the Atlas dancers, the Moussems or the Ahouachs, so many themes which figure among his favorite subjects such as fantasies and the Kasbah of the Oudayas. After his independence from Morocco, he was appointed professor of drawing at the Lycée Descartes of the French mission in Rabat while he lives in the city of Salé where he was able to contemplate and draw wonderfully the Kasbah of the Oudayas.
