Lenovo's entry level gaming laptop

The Lenovo Legion Y7000 is Lonovo's attempt of being different in the gaming industry with a more sophisticated, clean, and refined looking laptop instead of all the flashy lights on all the Asus/Acer/HP Omen laptops. The price is competitive at around the entry ~$1k mark, and comes loaded with features. It's a fairly light laptop for a gaming computer with the screen bezels really small for a premium look. The ports of the laptop have also been moved to the back with 2 huge vents for the massive fans in the back end of the laptop. the Y7000 is packed with some respectable hardware like Intel's i7-8750h, Nvidia GTX 1060, 256gb SSD storage and 8gb of RAM. Other optional products: Same specs but with a 512gb SSD = https://www.walmart.com/ip/Legion-Y7000-15-6-Gaming-Laptop-Windows-10-Intel-Core-i7-8750H-Quad-Core-Processor-8GB-Memory-512GB-PCIe-SSD-Storage-Nvidia-GeForce-GTX-1060-6GB-Grap/541345084 Same specs but with a 1TB HDD+ 256gb SSD = https://www.walmart.com/ip/Legion-Y7000-15-6-Gaming-Laptop-Windows-10-Intel-Core-i7-8750H-Quad-Core-Processor-8GB-Memory-1TB-Hard-Drive-256GB-PCIe-SSD-Storage-Nvidia-GeForce-GT/166582609 Solid laptop with a sophisticated look, you should definitely cross shop this along with the Asus's, Acer's and other gaming laptops. A Great-Looking and Powerful Gaming Laptop

TLDR: • Amazing feel all around, with a great aluminum case, beautiful screen, and tangible build quality. • Bucks the “loud, angry, red” trend of gaming laptop design. Understated visually, hugely powerful under the hood. • Ideal for a performance-demanding and grown up gamer or media producer. Components: 5/5: • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (Laptop): The mobile GTX 1060 is based on the GP106 chip. Compared to the identically named desktop version it features a slightly lower clock rate. Contemporary games in Full HD and maximum details should run fluently on the card. In my use of the laptop, high-demand gaming with settings on high ran very smoothly with no noticeable stutter, screen tear, or input lag. I ran Forza at ultra-high settings with anti-aliasing turned on and experienced an average framerate of 65 FPS, which is better than I had expected. (VR? AR?) This card will happily run a majority of VR and AR games using peripherals such as the Oculus series. It may struggle with poorly-optimized VR ports of certain games, but this is endemic to VR gaming right now and is not really the fault of the card. • Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. This particular unit has the new 6-core architecture, ideal for very high-demand calculations such as those in data processing or video editing. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs but still offer the advantage of 6 cores. These are currently standard market-leading chips and are considered a standard of excellence. • 256GB SSD internal storage: This is the bottom-end for the Y7000 line and feels really low for a contemporary device. You will essentially need to buy an external drive to use this, given modern game sizes. • 8GB RAM included: This is a good amount of RAM for a multi-tasking device; with multiple browser tabs open and 2 large games running, the RAM was at roughly 65% utilization, leaving lots of room for additional processes. The board supports up to 32GB RAM if you feel the need to expand using aftermarket parts. Form Factor: 5/5: • Design: The Lenovo Y7000 stands out by not standing out. I personally think this is amazing. I'm a gamer – but I'm also a working professional and have non-gaming hobbies. The last thing I need for my laptop to be doing is screaming “I AM A GAMER” to everyone in my vicinity through rainbow keyboards, red accents, and giant logos. Compared to those models, the Lenovo is downright classy. This thing is like a special agent of sorts, with a ton of firepower tucked neatly into a tuxedo-like appearance. The only major visual accent is a classy tristar logo on the lid. Other than that, you'd never know that this laptop was packing a GTX 1060 and a Core i7-8750H. I absolutely love this about this laptop. • Screen: The Lenovo Y7000 has a gorgeous screen in a relatively unique edgeless configuration. Taking inspiration from modern smartphone designs, the bezel on the sides and top of the screen is only millimeters thick. This only adds to the overall sleekness of the device. The screen is not slouch for gaming either – the quick 3ms/144HZ specs are great for FPS games requiring quick response times. The color ranges and black-definition are on point with other top-of-the-line gaming laptop screens, and the overall result is very pleasant. • Body: The body is primarily aluminum and it really shows. The whole device feels premium and well-engineered. The body is cool to the touch and reinforces the perception of build quality. When I tried a bend test, there were no perceptible bends or creaks as there often are with plastic-cased devices. I'd put the build quality and feel of this device on par with a top-end Macbook. Peripherals/Ports: 4/5 • Keyboard: This is a good keyboard, although unremarkable. I prefer this one to anything from Apple at this time – but I'm a mechanical keyboard snob so it's difficult for any integrated keyboard to impress. That said, the keyboard feels expensive and solid to the touch, without the plastic-y feeling of some competitors. Keypress feel was good, with a slightly shorter press distance than I prefer. The WASD and arrow keys are nicely contoured for gaming purposes. • Touchpad: It's fine, it's a touchpad. If you're buying an expensive gaming computer, you'll likely be using a peripheral mouse anyways. The pad has both tap-to-click and actual buttons. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, but seriously, just get a Bluetooth mouse. Summary: From a lover of understatement in design, this is one of the best looking and feeling laptops in a long while. With market-leading specs underpinning a durable and quiet design, this laptop is sure to be relevant as a gaming rig for years. I can't recommend the Lenovo Y7000 enough. One caveat for this particular model is that you will almost certainly want to buy an external drive to accompany the internal SSD. I am writing this review as part of a contest

Beautiful, Powerful, and Durable

This setup allows the system to act both as a snappy gaming rig with minimal area-transition load times, as well as a media-creation or photo and music storage hub. If the 256GB won't be enough for you, MSI does make a sized-up version of this device with a 512GB/1TB configuration. • 8GB RAM included: This is a good amount of RAM for a multi-tasking device; with multiple browser tabs open and 2 large games running, the RAM was at roughly 65% utilization, leaving lots of room for additional processes.
