Have Your ’67-’72 C10 Truck’s Doors Working Like New with Our Latch Mount Repair Panel As vehicles age wear issues become more apparent and more of a problem. The parts of the vehicle that see the most use end up giving us the most problems. The driver’s door hinges, latch, window regulator, and so forth will see a lot more wear than the passenger door for example. One way to “fix” these issues is to simply get rid of the vehicle, but as diehard enthusiasts that is never the right answer. The right answer is to rebuild or replace the worn components and keep on driving our cool classics of course! Some repairs are easier to accomplish than others. Bolt on parts that are worn can simply be removed and replaced, such as a worn out window regulator. Other issues are more involved, such as repairing the sloppy door latches on 2nd gen C10 pickups (the K10, Blazer, and Suburban suffer from the same issue as well). Over time, with 10s of thousands of opening and closing movements (and some door slamming no doubt) the door latch mounting holes wear out, causing the screw head to “blow through” or cracks to appear between the hole and the latch opening, weakening the latch mounting area and causing the latch to become loose in its mounting hole. This, in turn, creates door opening and closing issues, as the door must be pried open, slammed shut, or even lifted slightly to get the door latch to release or catch. Past repair options for this Chevy door latch problem included finding a good used door (good luck!), buying a reproduction door shell to replace the complete door, or custom fabbing a repair patch/insert that required a lot of careful measuring and sheetmetal dimpling/fabrication for the flat head attachment screws to sit flush. We know that these solutions are expensive and time consuming, so we have developed a repair patch for the C10 door latch assembly mounting area with precisely located and dimpled mounting holes that register off the latch opening for a perfect fit. A Weld-In Solution That Fixes Your C10’s Sticky, Sloppy Door Action for Good Made from 18-gauge hot rolled sheet steel, these C10 door latch assembly mounting area patches are CNC laser cut for a precision fit. The three mounting holes are in the factory Chevy door latch assembly mounting points to use your original latches or replacement door latches if yours have seen better days. The factory dimple diameter and depth has been recreated so that your Chevy door latch assembly flat head mounting screws will sit flush, just as GM intended, for a perfect fit. Using the patch panel’s door latch opening contour, simply outline the patch panel onto your door shell and cut out the marked area. The new Chevy door latch assembly mounting panel is easily welded into place with minor grinding/trimming to get that perfect fit for your C10 door latch assembly so that it will easily open or close on the C10 door striker. Follow standard welding practices and then the patch can be ground/body worked/painted to your level of completeness and the latch reinstalled. Now is the perfect time to inspect your door hinges for sloppy pins or adverse wear and replace as necessary to ensure your C10’s door closes like the day it rolled off the assembly line.
