First- I am a furniture rehab/DIYer. I am staining and sealing this piece and adding a custom mosaic top. Overall I'm happy with this purchase. I think it is worth the price. It looks like some effort was made to address a few previous concerns with some little extras that were included. This is smooth but unfinished wood - which is exactly what I wanted. That said, there will sometimes be rough spots or splinters. I did not encounter any, but they included a little sanding disk and a protective glove (only one - little weird) for handling wood pieces while preparing to assemble. That is a thoughtful detail.
First the cons - the assembly instructions were not great. A little confusing and I am highly experienced in furniture assembly. Take your time studying the images. Make sure you understand the concept and order of the assembly before you start and you should be fine. I always assemble alone, but less experienced assemblers may find it better to have a helper.
Also, be aware that you will not have a smooth table top with this unit. Others have mentioned this. There are visible connections on the top piece. They provided a vinyl doily like mat to cover the top. This may appeal to some, but there are much better solutions. With what I'm planning for the top, it isn't as problematic for me, but I f you want a smooth furniture quality top be prepared to fill with wood filler, sand, and then paint. Another option is buying a precut circle veneer and edge trim to apply to the top. That would make this piece living room quality and could make a great statement with the rest painted a contrasting color.
Pros- this piece, once assembled, is sturdy, stable, and turns smoothly when fully loaded. I did a pre assembly before customizing to ensure everything was good and the piece would meet my needs. If I didn't already have a specific idea in mind for which this was purchased, I would have considered leaving this unfinished and using it in my studio to hold all of my project journals and craft books. It is practical , space saving, and holds a lot! I will likely buy another for that purpose.
I looked at many rotating bookshelf tables, and I feel that the round table is more space saving, versatile and stylish than the square ones I saw.
There were many versions of this exact design available. This particular company seems to have taken the time to listen to feed back, and added some extras. It was well packaged and contents were well protected from shipping damage sustained to the outer container. Shipping was fast.
Value - for me the value is spot on. I sell some of my custom pieces. I do not have a wood working shop, so I have to have good quality and inexpensive pieces as my base and I don't always have the time to refinish old pieces. I am please that I could easily customize this and resell it for a good profit and feel confident of the quality being what people expect from my works.
I will be repurchasing in the future.
