Best all-round Rock Crawler / Racer

My son loves it! It comes with everything that you need in the box, including a radio you can use for other cars and is of higher quality. The Twin Hammers doesn't specialize in just one thing, it does it all pretty well! Great rock crawler plus the ability to race it. Excellent all-round buggy, indoors and out! Would buy again for sure.

Great quality...OK performance

I bought the Twin Hammers because I own a dozen RC cars (Slash, Ruckus, Prolite, Losi scb, etc.) and wanted something a bit different. I saw the solid rear axle on the Twin Hammers and thought it would be a neat addition to my growing retinue of cars/trucks. I liked the idea of a rock crawler/trail rig so I jumped in. The car showed up in excellent condition and packaging as I would anticipate from Horizon Hobby. I knew about the hi/low gear setup as well and was really excited as it was my first 3 channel rig too. This is an absolutely beautiful car...it's almost a shame to send it off-road; but I don't believe in 'show/shelf' cars. The quality is phenomenal as, once again, I've come to expect from Horizon; and getting it to run was just as easy. I have a few cars that run with the mini LiPo batteries so I had plenty of those at hand but seeing a 1/10 scale rig with minis was a bit offsetting. Fear not though the provided mini LiPo worked great. However, being the OCD/eccentric/perfectionist I am; this was inadequate; so I bought a kit to accommodate a full sized LiPo. Not required by any means but I just had to do it. On the first run I was impressed by its pep. Since it is a brushed motor with a LiPo battery I kinda expected it but it convinced me there was a lot of potential in there. The one thing that became evident very early was that this thing can not turn with any speed. Also, trying to turn with moderate power = flip. I must confess: as a rock crawler/trail basher it's perfect/OK. Admittedly, I'm a backyard basher/track driver and rarely/never rock-crawl...but since buying this rig I have tried to learn to enjoy the whole rock crawling experience. I'm in the process of modifying the rear diff to an unlocked configuration since, like I said, I'm more of a track kinda guy but I'll keep the locker to change out to crawl since my local track has a crawler course too. Yet, with a locked rear diff this is almost undriveable on a track at any appreciable speed...but it's an absolute champ in the backyard with long grass/weeds/dirt piles; the power is awesome. End result: beautiful car, phenomenal construction, great value and endless customization! This rig can be anything you want it to be; if you know how to do it.
