Cool Your RaceSaver 305’s Limited Oil Capacity and Extend Your Sprint Car’s Engine Life The RaceSaver 305 sprint car series has been a successful way for growing racers to enter the sprint car series on a limited budget. While the RaceSaver 305 may be an entry level class, it has quickly grown to be the dominant sprint car class in terms of car count and spectator viewing. It is an affordable racing class when compared to the 410 sprint car series and a class that many find themselves very capable in for weekly racing with plenty of wheel to wheel competition in tracks across the country. The sealed racing engines used in these race cars are designed around a set of rules and specific parts that must be used in the engine, one of which is a wet sump oiling system. Whereas 360 and 410 sprint cars use a dry sump system with external tank (and extra capacity), the RaceSaver 305’s limited capacity held within the engine’s oil pan means the oil in these engines is not cooled as efficiently as the dry sump setups. Many racers will run the AFCO triple pass sprint car radiator to keep temps in check during the race with limited success. This is mainly because the high temps are due to the hot engine oil heat soaking the water jackets of the block and heads, so the radiator can only do so much. Adding an external engine oil cooler has been shown to be a huge help in bringing the RaceSaver 305 engine’s down, which extends engine life and lowers the engine’s water temperature as well. Our RaceSaver 305 sprint car engine oil cooler kit provides a direct fit engine oil cooler mounting system for those running the AFCO triple pass sprint car radiator that fits a high capacity engine oil cooler in a neat and compact mounting. Laser Cut Aluminum Brackets Designed for AFCO’s Popular Triple Pass Radiator A sprint car chassis has a lot going on in a small amount of space. Trying to find a suitable mounting position for any external cooler, where it will be effective and protected from track debris can be a challenge. We designed our .090-inch thick T651 aluminum engine oil cooler kit brackets to cradle the popular AFCO triple pass radiator most RaceSaver 305 racers are using. Our brackets are laser cut and precision bent to hug the radiator and provide a solid mounting location for the included oil cooler. The bracket locates the oil cooler on the engine side of the radiator to keep the cooler out of the way yet provides easy access to the oil cooler’s hoses for service work or engine removal. The included 1/4-20 hardware with nylon locking nuts ensures that your oil cooler and mounting brackets will stay secure through the rigors of racing week after week. The Derale stacked plate oil cooler included in this kit features an efficient 34-rows of plate and fin furnaced brazed construction. The oil cooler is sized 13-inches wide, 10-7/8-inches tall, and 2-inches thick. The black powder coated aluminum oil cooler features turbulator-equipped plates (inserts that help agitate the fluid for maximum heat transfer) and is capable of shedding 59,000 BTUs of energy. The inlet and outlet are designed for AN 10 O-ring fittings for a high flow leak free seal void of tapered fittings that can damage coolers or the need to use any thread sealers that can contaminate the oiling system or cause a restriction in oil flow. Add the AN 10 hose fittings and hose length for however you prefer to route your cooler lines and don’t forget the engine block adapter if you need one to finish out your installation.
