Installation Article

AutoMeter SPORT-COMP II I decided to go with a AutoMeter SPORT-COMP II Pedestal Tachometer, 3-3/4” Diameter with a 0-10,000 RPM range. Product # 3690 – Pic 1. It comes with an ultra bright LED shift light that guarantees you hit your shifts perfectly, every time. We'll see about that – I'm sure they can't figure in operator reaction time for an old guy like me. But the shift light will be a great help. LOL Feature Points • Modern white LED through-the-dial lighting provides clear visibility during nighttime use. • Compatible with 0.5 - 6 pulse ignition signals (1-12 cylinder engines) with points, electronic, and most 12V high-performance racing ignitions. • AutoMeter's race proven air-core electric tachometers provide quick and accurate readings with a needle so responsive it can go from 0 - full scale in 333 milliseconds • 12 and 16 volt compatible, well-suited with nearly every street car or race car electrical system. • Optimize use of your engine's power band and improve vehicle run performance and driver gear changes with a rapid response, high visibility user-programmable shift light. Mounting A) Loosen both bolts holding the shock strap to the mounting foot. Back both bolts (5⁄32” allen wrench) out until each is only one or two turns into the spacer – Pic 2. B) Pass tach wires through shock strap assembly and slide tach casing into shock strap assembly – Pic 3. C) I drilled a hole thru the dash to pass the wires thru – Pic 4. D) Position Shift-Lite mounting bracket under shock strap as shown in image. Adjust Shift-Lite, tach, and mounting base to desired positions, and tighten bolts (5⁄32” allen wrench) holding mounting foot to shock strap to secure the assembly. Make sure rubber section of shock strap seats properly to ensure proper fitment. Check to make sure shock strap is approximately 3⁄4” (0.750”) between center line of strap and step of tachometer casing for best mounting. Plug shift light into tachometer connector. Plug is directional, do not force fit! – Pic 5. E) Recommended placement of external Shift-Lite is at 10 o'clock position. It is possible to place Shift-Lite in other positions in accordance with driver preference and vehicle mounting requirements. Also shown in - Pic 5 F) The special design of the tachometer base allows for a variety of mounting possibilities. Attach the base using screws provided or use a pop rivet tool – Pic 6. Gauge cluster all tagged and ready to go. Using quick connects in case it has to be removed for any reason down the road – Pic 7. I Installed a `68 GTO Bucket seat so I could sit and install gauge cluster. This is the original seat I installed in 1968. Still in GREAT shape. Perfect look for “The Godfather”! – Pic 8. Operation Shift-Lite Set Mode H) To enter this mode, apply power to the tach by turning the ignition switch to the “Accessory” or “On” position. Do not start the engine! Press and release both the LEFT “+” and RIGHT “-” buttons at the same time. The pointer will indicate the current Shift-Lite set point. I) Using the RIGHT “-” and LEFT “+” buttons, move the pointer to the desired RPM for the new Shift-Lite Set Point. Pressing the LEFT button will cause the pointer to move up (CW), pressing the RIGHT “-” button will cause the pointer to move down (CCW). J) Press and release both the LEFT “+” and RIGHT “-” buttons at the same time to save the setting and exit Shift-Lite Set Mode. My head is spinning just typing these instructions but I'm sure once I'm ready to program the tach it will all make sense. AutoMeter - An inaugural inductee to the Hot Rod Speed Parts Hall of Fame, no other tachometer on the market has had anything approaching its impact on professional racing. Built for a lifetime of service under the harshest conditions, this is the no compromise tach for no compromise builds. When you're ready for the best, there isn't another choice.

Great tach

The Sport Comp 2 tach is so easy to install. The fit, finish and performance is perfect. There was no need in my application to install the shift light.

Right size and fair price

Just bought and worked as should. Like the size in my 67 Chevelle.
