Controls of all kinds are integral parts of restaurant equipment operations. A control is a switch or other device by which a machine is regulated. A control may be manual or automatically operated. An electro-mechanical control typically consists of multiple relays, timers, and/or counters wired together on an enclosure panel.
Electro-mechanical control is also referred to simply as "Relay Control", which is a more accurate term since solid state electronic relays, timers, and counters are standard components. Contactors, motor and compressor starters, valves, thermostats, and other output devices are used to turn on/off motors, indicator lights, heating elements, and other components used in the equipment.
In the manufacture of restaurant equipment, a fascia is referred to as a covering or panel. A fascia may be decorative and purposeful at the same time such as in a louvered panel that allows ventilation. A fascia may also have translucence as used in lighted merchandising sign panels. A fascia is generally held in position by a frame or interlocking connector or it may be adhesive-backed as in a vinyl keypad or control pad.
A panel is usually a rectangular section of a surface, or a covering or of a piece of equipment. Panels may be made of stainless steel, painted aluminum, or molded plastic and are water resistant an easily cleaned. It may have fin type of openings (louvers) to allow air to flow across interior components. Panels may also be "control panels" having operating buttons, displays, dials or switches.
