Charles Brewster, a wealthy real estate developer and widower, lives with his beautiful daughter Julia in a posh penthouse apartment in present-day New York City. His love for his daughter and concern for her life-style and future happiness entangles him in a game of matchmaking. He persuades one of his employees Rick Cooper, a handsome bachelor, to date his daughter with the proviso that he could look but not touch. Charles's unique scheme that he believes is fail proof goes awry with heartbreaking results.
