Very inaccurate sizing

I normally wear a size 16/18 with an hourglass figure. I usually buy my costumes in plus size 1X but I read reviews on this costume and decided to upsize to a 3/4X figuring a little bigger fit would be ok, however, the size 3/4X fits like a very small 1X and was extremely tight, I couldn't even zip up the skirt. Also, the shirt is more of a crop top style. The material of the costume was well made. Super disappointed in the inaccurate sizing though.
