The first mattress I received was torn in 2 places, maybe because of the suction and shrink wrap to make them so small. Opening it was exciting to watch it expand. This mattress does have 2 different sides. One side you can feel the coils the other has padding. I also bought a platform to go with this mattress. I have never slept better! The mattress is firm, which is what I wanted, BUT be careful, sitting up on the edge could cause you problems. The edge is soft when you sit on it, but I bought it for sleeping not sitting on the edge. 1 of my co-workers came over to check it out, she loved it and did not want to leave.
