Easy to use-hard to get mountain bike tires to fit

Love the idea of being able to hang a heavier bike (max 50lbs) off the gear track. The claw works and it's a great design. However, this claw isn't quite big enough to hold the front wheel & tire of my husband's Specialized mountain bike and it just barely will accommodate my Trek bike. It's hard to balance the bike with one hand while I'm trying to fit the tire into the claw and push the retraction button to close it. Getting it out is a snap! Now my husband just hangs his road bike in there and we call it a day. Back to floor racks for our heavy mountain bikes. I think Gladiator has figured out a solution for perpendicular bike storage, the design just needs to be refined a bit.
