This product is safe for use in horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and dogs to help clear intestinal impaction or obstruction. Mineral oil lubricates the intestinal tract and helps soften stool, making it useful for animals suffering from constipation. This mild laxative is safe for oral administration to animals. Mineral oil acts as a laxative by lubricating fecal material and the intestinal mucosa. It also reduces reabsorption of water from the gastrointestinal tract, thereby increasing fecal bulk and decreasing intestinal transit time. Some horses naturally clear sand from their digestive tract more effectively than others. Researchers have found that using a combination of mineral oil and psyllium is more effective overall than administering mineral oil alone. Mineral oil is totally inert within the gastrointestinal tract. There is no absorption of mineral oil, which allows it to arrive in the hind gut to exert its effect.
