You must change filter every 4 months or so
A foul smelling air started blowing from the top of my dyson DC 58 when I was vacuuming so I cleaned the filter really well with soap and water but my dyson stopped working after about 3 or 4 minutes I checked on line it said do not use soap but I had and it clogged the filter so my dyson stopped working the red light came on instead of the blue light indicating a problem so I purchased a pair of filters from Wallmart perfect no more bad smell just clean and fresh dont try to clean it isn't worth it and the bad smell that it expels will still remain
