Needed a replacement for my other surfboard modem, which randomly decided to give up the ghost after about a year and a half. I was able to get this new one same day from Walmart. It was plug and play and I was able to get internet restored to the house in minutes!

My internet provider bill jumped up once again. After doing a lot of research I finally bit the bullet and replaced my internet provider modem (which also had phone service) with this Arris SB6183. Since I decided to port my number and get rid of the phone service I had, this modem fit the bill as it's only for internet. For those of you looking to replace your modem to avoid the monthly fee they also have a different model Arris built for both internet and phone service. It set up very easily with my iMac. I did not have to contact my internet provider in order to get it up and running. Knowing your mac number is key. I've been meaning to do this since 4 bill increases ago:). It feels so liberating to buy a modem which performs flawlessly and not have to pay 10.00 a month just to use my service. One thing is the lights are quite bright. But that's no reason to rate it less. If you really wanted to, I saw where you can go into the settings and turn them off but that would seem strange to me:) Very happy with my purchase. So far, so good.
