Oh my goodness!
What?
No!
I think those are the phrases that I found myself thinking and even saying out loud on occasion, the most often while reading Soul Raging. From the opening line, The devil was once an angel to the last (you have to read it for yourself!!), this book sinks its claws in and does not let go!
Once again, Ms. Kendig did not disappoint, and with the final book in her The Book of the Wars series, she has hit another literary home run. As always, with her stories, Kendig drew me in and held me hostage during the high intensity, roller coaster ride of a plot that I have come to expect and love from her books.
Soul Raging is the long-awaited series finale of the Book of the Wars. Lief Metcalfe is negotiating an uncertain line trying to figure out what happened during the gap in his memory. Is our beloved hero truly a traitor? Who can we trust? Betrayal is around every corner. You will stay engaged, you will be shocked, you will guess wrong, and you might not be ok when it is all over.
Many of the other characters have significant developments in this book. You need to read the first two books in The Book of the Wars series- Storms Rising and Kings Falling. Otherwise, you will be lost and have a hard time understanding the storyline and the characters. If you are up to it, you could even go further back and read some of Ms. Kendigs other military series, where several of these characters start to appear.
My favorite quote from the book was this- Gods character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.
Oh, and you will not want to miss out on the last line of the book; it is an epic last line! But dont take my word for it. Get your copy and read it for yourself!! But dont skip ahead to do so.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Bethany House Publishing Group and through NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
