He is among the most well-known painters of the Post-Impressionist period. He often applied the paint in long, thin brushstrokes which would often leave much of the board on which they are painted showing through. Many of his works may best be described as drawings in coloured paint. Frame Description: New Age Wood Frame - Black Finish

Product details
20" X 24" Oil Painting On Canvas Reminiscent of the Fauvist technique, where the overall composition is more important than the realistic view of the subject matter, Toulouse-Lautrec paints a dramatic scene of Jockeys on horses in this circa 1892 scene. He offers a beautiful, dark, and richly colored arrangement with lots of texture produced by short broad strokes. Perfect for any sportsman or compliment to any space above a mantle. Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa (1864 - 1901) was a French painter, printmaker, draughtsman and illustrator whose immersion in the colorful and theatrical life of Paris in the late 1800s yielded a collection of exciting, elegant, and provocative images of the modern and sometimes decadent culture. He is among the most well-known painters of the Post-Impressionist period. Although Toulouse-Lautrec's skilled depiction of people is highly linear and gives great emphasis to contour, the evolution of his style integrates techniques often associated with Impressionism and Fauvist works. Drawn to the bohemian lifestyle in Montmartre Paris, Toulouse-Lautrec lived and worked amongst other artists whose goal was to translate the decadence of Parisian life to the canvas. He was commissioned to paint promotional posters for the infamous Moulin Rouge, which are still enduring symbols of a bygone era. Toulouse-Lautrec's life was cut short and although his artistic career spanned less than twenty years, his contribution to the art world is immeasurable.
