Peru Balsam is native to El Salvador and is extracted from the Myroxylon balsamum tree. It has a sweet aroma similar to vanilla, but with a hint of cinnamon (it’s great for DIY perfumes). This essential oil can be very helpful when dealing with complex, disruptive emotions by calming nervous tension and promoting a tranquil environment. It can also be used to help clear congestion and promote a healthy respiratory system. The main constituent of Peru Balsam is Benzoic Acid, which is well-known for it’s ability to “clean,” so it’s great to add to your DIY body wash, shampoo, or lotion. You can also use it to help with minor cuts and scrapes and other skin problems. Because this oil is so strong, we recommend that you only dilute up to 0.4% for topical applications.
