Inexpensive Lamp Holder Option

We have low ceilings in our 218-year-old basement, and the ceiling lights often get broken by accident. I put metal covers over them, but then a plastic lamp holder broke. These ceramic lamp holders are more durable, but the necks are a little short for attaching a metal cover. I was able to solve this problem by wrapping some duct tape around the end of the neck in order to increase the circumference, and the cover is now secure.
