Carnotaurus sastrei

This Cretaceous theropod has been recreated by many a dino toy company... from Papo to Schleich, and Mattel to Kaiyodo (Japanese brand). Rebor even did an aesthetically pleasing rendition of the "meat-eating bull". It was 2019's Carnotaurus that really captured the likeliness of this creature.. thanks to sculptor Doug Watson's eye for all that is Saurian. Safari had done a Carnotaurus figure in the past, but this one really takes the cake with its proportionately small sized arms, its subtle yet somehow striking coloration, and the beautiful head sculpt washed in a burnt orange (it almost reminds you of a vulture or some other creature who feasts by plunging their snout into carrion). The almost black glossy eyes give it a menacing lifelike appearance. Safari is easily becoming one of (if not THE) leading company for prehistoric figures. 2016 was an AMAZING year for us Safari dino fans, and just when you think that surely it cant get any better, it does! So, the Carnotaurus looks sleek and predatory, with an interesting color scheme that is certainly believable. The osteoderms and wrinkling add more to the realism (again, thanks Doug Watson!).. my only minor gripe with this figure is how beefy the legs look. This species was allegedly a fast sprinting runner with an almost slender build.. but take a minute to think about what it takes to get a bipedal dinosaur to stand correctly with no base and/or support rod. It would be pretty dang difficult! So having slightly thicker legs is a small price to pay to have a beautiful dinosaur that stands upright, parallel to the ground, rather than some archaic tail-dragging monster that so many dino toys have been in the past! Kudos to both Sarari Ltd and Doug Watson for yet another AMAZING figure! I cant wait for the rest of the 2019 prehistoric lineup! I already have the Citipati (another amazing figure in it's own right). Heck, although I'm more of a dinosaur/archosaur collector, I just cant wait for the 2019 salmon, and the pelagic fish toob! If you love dinosaurs, do yourself a favor an check out the 2019 Safari Ltd Carnotaurus, or any of their figures for that matter!!!
