I am completely amazed that the Engage 11" Cool Gel Foam and Innerspring hybrid mattress came shipped to me compressed and rolled up in thick cardboard which allows for bringing this mattress through hallways and staircases much easier. My first thought when seeing this, is there would be no way this mattress could expand to a queen size, 11” thick, mattress. We followed the instructions that come with the mattress and placed it rolled up on top of the foundation and cut the outside plastic wrap. The mattress immediately started to expand, and within just a few minutes it was almost completely expanded. The instructions state that complete expansion will occur within 24 to 72 hours. I noticed that mine was complete by the time I went to bed. The top and bottom end of the mattress sloped down at first, but they were normal within hours. In cold temperatures, the manufacturer suggests that the package should be opened and allowed to expand for longer. I did have help setting this up, but I do think one strong person would be able to do this alone. The mattress itself weighs around 90 pounds. I was eager to try this out, especially with the ventilated gel memory foam, as I sleep very hot, and the gel is designed to draw heat away from your body. The pocketed coils are designed to help limit movement and provide support, and since I have a very bad back, I thought this would help me sleep better. My first reaction was how firm this mattress was. I did not expect that a mattress, coming compressed like this, would be very firm. I would not say that it is “hard”, just firm to the touch. You don’t feel like your sinking down and changing positions is easy because of this. I was pleasantly surprised that my back actually feels better sleeping on this mattress, and I am not waking up hot. I have a very similar mattress that cost much more than this Engage model, and it is hot, and does not provide as much support. The cover has a very nice soft touch, has a four way stretch, and is very attractive. This mattress also comes with a 10 year limited warranty. The first three years are full value, and the remaining seven years are pro-rated. That is a pretty standard warranty for mattresses. You can spend a great deal more money on a mattress such as this, and most people might feel uncomfortable buying a compressed model, but do yourself a favor and save some money. This mattress is well worth the price.
