Extra firm is correct and that is what we wanted after a firm mattress not providing good support after a couple years. Of course, we will have to wait and see how it holds up. The construction says more support in the middle and that is what I need. For comfort we have a basic bed topper and heavy matters cover with some softness. That has worked well for both a heavier and lighter weight person. Great side support and solid construction.

It’s been a few weeks and so far so good! My wife and I tried a couple bed in the box companies including the purple mattress and we ended up having to return them. We were sleeping better on our 8 year old Beautyrest spring mattress than the brand new ones. That’s when we decided to stick to what we knew was working for us and got a new spring mattress. I like this mattress a lot so far. It’s firm but not hard if that makes sense. The only thing I will note is that if you pay close attention you will notice that the center of the bed is slightly higher than the head and foot. I chalk this up to there being extra coils in the center for enhanced back support, however for someone who is slightly OCD I do my best to ignore it.
