Better than what I expected, it is not a waste at all

Pros: I have the Canon 100-400mm L, and I was looking for a lens that gets me that better reach without having to pay $14,000. Once I heard about this lens and the previous reviews, I decided to give it a shot as it's anyway cheaper than my 100-400.I got the lens a couple of days back. From the first look, the lens looked solid and well built, and I could actually see the quality of the optics once I removed the lens cap. The zoom ring is very well sized to the extent that you can't ever miss. I also liked the lock feature at 150mm which is much easier than the lock ring mechanism at the 100-400.I got the chance to take some test shots against my 100-400 and this Tamron was surprisingly sharper than the Canon 100-400mm L in the same settings. I'm attaching here a comparison shot, both shots were taken at F/8.0 using a tripod and a gimbal head at ISO 100. Focus was fast and accurate, at least for the still objects I tested. At 600mm, the lens goes just a bit softer, which was actually expected to me. However, the photos at 600mm are pretty much usable since I was prepared to sacrifice some little IQ for a better reach.Overall, I'm so far happy with this lens and looking forward to take it out for some bird and wildlife shots. For this price tag, you can't go wrong with this one. Cons: Just a little bit softer at 600mm

Tamron SP 150-600mm Lens for Canon

Pros: Great zoom range. Lots of lens for the price. Takes clear pictures all the way out to 600mm. Cons: No lens case included with lens. Other thoughts: I bought the lens for photographing wildlife and after just a few weeks of use I am very happy with the results so far.

Tamron 150-600 Lens

Pros: It is pretty sharp all the way to 600mm.The vibration compensation is better than any Nikon lens I own. I took a shot at 600mm, 1/125 sec hand held of a moving aircraft and it was perfectly sharp. Build quality is pretty good for the price. The photo keeper rate was about 90% at an air show compared to about 70% that I would get with my Nikon 28-300VR or Nikon 80-200 f/2.8. Cons: It is a very large and heavy lens, takes some getting used to. You will probably need a new larger bag if you plan to carry this lens with other lens. It did not fit in my Tamrac Pro-5 bag and barely fit my Canon backpack. Problem solved with a new Tamrac Pro-12 bag. Other thoughts: For the money there is no other lens that comes close in this zoom range. The only alternative is to get the Sigma Contemporary which is maybe equal but I would trust Tamron image quality over it. The Sigma Sport 150-600 would be a step up but at twice the cost. A Nikon prime 600mm is 10 times the cost. I bought this lens solely for air shows and out of all the glass I have used in the past, Nikon and Tokina this does a much better job. My Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 is sharper but the Tamrom makes up for it in range and vibration compensation so in the end I come home with a lot more usable photos.
