U-Beam worked great!
Our old home has been through many additions/renovations. The kitchen had been expanded and there was a mismatched pair of steel beams above the breakfast bar that were painted white. I considered building a wood box around the steel beams but was really looking for a natural single wood beam look. The space inside your large U-Beam was perfect to cover the ugly mismatched steel beams. It was light enough to install myself and took wood stain nicely. The price was less than I would have spent on rough cut lumber to box out the steel beam.
